Name: Noctis Lucis Caelum
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Zegnautus Keep, after regrouping with his retinue but before finding the Crystal
Age: 20
History: Wiki article!
Personality: Noctis Lucis Caelum is a prince, heir to the throne of Lucis, and the man picked by the gods to rid his world of the daemonic Starscourge that threatens humanity. Not many of these details are apparent upon first meeting him, and he's just fine with that. But they do shape his personal to different extents.
In general, Noctis tends to present himself as someone who'd literally like to be anywhere besides wherever he's currently located. While he isn't usually outright rude, he tends to speak tersely and appears largely emotionless and uninterested in things that don't directly pertain to him. And in a way, this is true.
But not entirely. As a child, Noctis was more sociable--not necessarily more friendly, as he still kept to himself and was closer to royal staff and his personal attendants--and less distant. When he loses many of said attendants in a daemon attack that nearly took his life as well, he becomes fearful of losing more people he might care about. The attack affects him physically as well years after the event, crippling his ability to use the powers given to him by his bloodline and injuring him badly enough that he tires easily and walks with a slight limp even as an adult.
Trauma aside, Noctis still kept a distance from people who wanted to be close to him because of his status. He made his first real friend, Prompto, at the beginning of high school, when Prompto decided to try to make friends like Noctis was any other student.
There are things that Noctis truly doesn't care much for, but there are so many more things he does care about. He enjoys helping people out, and will often go out of his way to fulfill a request, whether it be catching frogs or finding an oil can in a random-ass place in the wilderness or helping a person he's never even seen before fix a broken down car. However, he does still try to keep those people's personal lives at arm's reach, just in case. He'll help them, but he doesn't want to know their life stories.
Prompto constantly tries to get him to show some sort of emotion, especially if it's something Noctis enjoys doing and should be enthusiastic about. And it works, sort of, but most of what he lets show is irritation, smugness, or anger. His love for his fiancée is very obvious--when he decides to show it--but he'll normally deflect any and all attempts to get him to admit or show that outright. None of this stops him from being awkward in situations he's caught off-guard by or when he just can't come up with a good response to something.
In most situations, Noctis prefers to lead or otherwise take charge and doesn't particularly like if someone tries to 'steal' that position from him. He'll make an exception for situations where someone else's would obviously be better equipped to handle things.
It's worth noting that despite being a helpful--if distant--person, he's also a brat at heart. As a kid and teenager, he was frequently caught trying to sneak out to where he wasn't supposed to be and tended to dodge or put off responsibilities. As an adult, he still tries to dodge responsibilities but in lieu of sneaking out he's adopted a snarky attitude and love of pushing his friends' buttons. Interestingly enough, despite his lineage and status, he rarely ever pulls rank unless it's absolutely necessary.
Speaking of lineage and responsibilities, Noctis is terrible at most things relating to politics or royal duties. While he’s not totally clueless, most of what he’s learned in those areas comes from watching his dad and as a result, he secretly worries about having to actually take charge of an entire country and whether he’s good enough to even do so.
It’s also worth noting that Noctis is very, VERY averse to veggies of most kinds. He’s known to shut down conversations that even mention beans and remove all visible vegetables from a meal.
Abilities: First and foremost, as someone of royal blood, Noctis has access to several magic abilities, some of which he can 'lend' to others. He can summon any weapon he's collected from thin air, as can anyone directly associated with him (friends, bodyguards, etc.), and more than a dozen at a time if necessary. He can throw any weapon he's holding and warp to where that weapon lands or sticks instantaneously, and use the ability short-range to phase through attacks. Outside of battle, he can create spells from raw elemental energy and turn ordinary drinks into curative potions and elixirs.
He can also summon his world's versions of gods. That is, if they see fit to actually come and help him.
Noctis is an excellent fighter even without being able to summon weapons, though it does help. He's most used to one-handed swords, but he's capable of using staves, polearms, daggers, two-handed swords, bows, and guns if he needs to. He's better at fighting alongside people whose fighting style he knows well, but he's quick to adapt to nearly anything.
Most of his magical abilities are granted by a crystal gifted to his family millenia before his time, and so it's entirely possible that none of his skills outside of normal combat will work if he's not on his home world.
Strengths: helpful, concise, adaptive, (outwardly) confident, sarcasm
Weaknesses: secretly worries, awkward in many social situations, terse, stubborn, ignores problems
Power: Light Manipulation; the power to use available light in an area and increase or decrease it at will. Works on artificial and natural light, but can't be used in complete darkness.
